The Mill Pond Cottage Compound is located in Chatham's historic district also commonly known as The Old Village.  The Old Village Historic District is predominantly residential and includes houses dating from c.1730 to the 20th century. The district also includes the famous Chatham Lighthouse, Chatham's Coast Guard Station, Lighthouse Beach, Upper and Lower Mill Pond, Bridge Street's famous wooden drawbridge and First Light Boatworks and Marine Railway as well as a small number of other commercial buildings.

The Mill Pond Cottage Compound's location is convenient and highly walkable to the downtown district with many of Chatham's unique shops and restaurants.   It is situated on Eliphamets Lane and is located between Mill Pond and the Atlantic coastline of Chatham.  The Old Village District retains the rich character and charm of this quaint village dating back centuries and this family compound is a well-known signature property in Chatham due to its unique history and the incredible and nautically designed characteristics of its buildings.

In total, the three units that comprise the Mill Pond Cottage Compound can sleep up to 16 people.  The main house, known as The Captain's House has three bedrooms and two baths and can sleep 6-8.  The Windmill Cottage has two bedrooms and one bath and can sleep 3-4.  The Artist Cottage has one bedroom and a twin bunk loft and can sleep 4.  Private outdoor showers, patios and Weber gas grills are adjacent to each of the units.  The small boat house on the property contains beach chairs, beach umbrellas, coolers, children's beach toys and a beach cart for the convenience of our guests.  Mill Pond is adjacent to the property with a private residents launch for your kayaks and paddleboards.  For the boating enthusiast, the compound is also adjacent to The First Light Boatworks and Marine Railway where you can arrange for private dock space or a mooring for your boat.  Mill Pond opens up to Stage Harbor and Nantucket Sound and is a popular location for boaters, clammers, fisherman, kayakers, paddleboard enthusiasts and recreational swimming.

The Mill Pond Cottage Compound was designed and built by a well know naval architect in 1942.  Spaulding Dunbar purchased the land and started his wooden sailboat building business and built The Captain's House for himself and his family.  First Light Boatworks which is adjacent to the compound continues on with incredible craftsmanship and with the tradition of designing, building, restoring and repairing wooden sailboats and motorboats.  Their award winning designs are highly sought after and there is no mistaking one of their vessels when spotted on the cape and islands.
